Bring on the B12

This week has been insane. Gasparilla, an overnight work commitment in Coral Gables, and then, for the first time ever, my number came up for jury duty.
I was #113. Also, can we take a minute to judge the County Clerk's Office for using "thru" instead of "through"?
It was actually a pretty interesting experience at times, but mostly it was boring. The redundancies and the weird analogies the judge and lawyers went into drove me nuts. I didn't get chosen for the jury because as soon as I heard what the case was I knew I'd be too opinionated/biased to remain impartial.

It wasn't until Thursday evening that I hung up my race medals, and I realized that I only have one more hook on our shelves!
One lonely hook...It will have its own medal come March 15!
I guess I'll have to start doubling them up sooner than I anticipated!

Remember a few weeks ago when I had some blood tests run to figure out my exhaustion? I had my followup this week. The good news is that everything is generally normal.

The one thing that stood out to my doctor was that my B12 was a little low. Nothing drastic, but low enough that she's wondering if I'm having some absorption trouble. So I'm going to start taking 1000mg a day to overload my body and try to force adequate absorption.

I wonder how quickly I'll see results!

In other news, I watched this video from The Onion and gave myself the hiccups laughing.

Do you have any experience with taking B12?
What are you running from?

  1. My fiancé and I both have to take supplemental b12. When his doctor figured it out she gave him a series of shots. He loved it though, they gave him a serious energy boost. He also takes a daily supplement. I'm not sure, but I think his are 1000mcg. My doctor suggested kind of the opposite approach. I've been taking 250mcg daily since then. I haven't noticed any difference, but my last bloodwork showed normal b12 levels. Hopefully you'll start to feel more energy with the extra b12.

    1. My doctor doesn't think mine is low enough to warrant shots, luckily. I'm taking time-release capsules right now but I think I'm going to switch to a faster release formula so I can see results faster.

  2. I saw differences within a few days of starting my B12 supplement! Knock on wood....I've never been selected for jury duty!!!

    1. I'm not sure what kind of change to look for; I hope I notice a drastic increase in energy!

Jury duty was kind of fun but I do wish it had come at a different time...this was a bad week for it!

  3. That video!!!! The "you have reached your destination" followed by Just Do It!!

I tried taking over the counter B12 supplements last year but ended up getting a round of shots. My doctor said that B12 absorption issues are common if you have celiac :/.

    1. LMAO I know that part made me feel bad for laughing!

I hadn't even though of the B12 being linked to celiac, although I think you mentioned it before. My doc said shots probably aren't necessary for me, so hopefully the pills work!

  4. Are you allowed to tell us what the case was for?

I would love to be on a Jury. Something good, though. :) But I don't think I would be picked either. They would ask potential jurors "What TV shows do you watch?" I'd be like... "Um, Nancy Grace, Dateline..." NEXT!!

    1. The defendant was a young black man accused of resisting arrest with violence. Literally the second I heard the case and that police officers would be testifying, I was like, "I watch too much news and am too skeptical of officers these days, sorry." And my comment started a deluge of similar comments from other prospective jurors. Oops.

  5. Haha that video is pretty funny. This post reminded me I should set up a general checkup with my doc.

  6. Years ago I had to get B12 shots - every month. I quit after awhile because it was so inconvenient. Just a few weeks ago I had my yearly physical and blood work and my DR said that my B12 is way too low again. This time we are just trying a multi vitamin that is high in B12.
Hope you can get yours under control.

    1. I can't imagine getting monthly shots ever again. I did 4 years of immunotherapy and it was so annoying to make appointments all the time! I'm hoping supplemental pills are enough for me!

  7. I was selected for a jury once. It was a drug case and it was the most boring thing I've ever had to endure.

Your medals and bibs are so organized. Mine are scattered all over my room. It's a problem.

    1. I kind of like the idea of jury duty because it's our civic duty, but when it comes down to it I feel like I can't shoulder that responsibility!

  8. I've never tried a B12 supplement. I get tired a lot, and I just assume it's cause I'm a grad student. Haha. Your medals are crazy organized. I only have a few now, but I bet mine will get crazy and disorganized (like everything else I own). lol

    1. Oh, I slept SO much in grad school. I feel like fatigue is just a side-effect of grad programs lol.

  11. Glad you're getting closer to figuring out what's the cause of your fatigue. I've had jury duty 4 or 5 times but I never get picked...it's such a time killer! At least they let us mooch on their free Wifi while we hurry up and wait!

    1. I do enjoy the free WiFi! By the time we got back to the courtroom for the questions/selection, I didn't really want to be chosen because it was already past 1pm and we hadn't eaten or anything yet!
