Don't you just love a weekend that feels fully appreciated? Coming off FCAT, I was in need of a good one, but because I'm still on that pesky
Cipro, I couldn't unwind with a long run.
The first thing on my list for this weekend was to sleep in, which I did. Naturally awake by 9am, I forced myself to snooze until 10, then read in bed until close to noon.
After a late brunch, Matt and I went paddling. It's been so long since I've gone, and I really needed to do something active. Being unable to do anything "rigorous" has been pretty frustrating, but getting outside and on the water was very healing.

Sunday we headed up to see Brittany's little one turn...one. (I can't believe
just a year ago she was such a teeny little thing!) Like most babies, she was tentative and dainty about the cake at first, but by the end she understood what the big deal's all about. And she mauled that cake for all it was worth.
|
Her face at the end is simply awesome. That expression! |
Afterward, because Britt lives near to the beach where all those
shark teeth always turn up, we made our way over and spent about an hour or so with the "Florida snow shovel". We came away with a small handful of sharks' teeth, some quite big. I think we've found a new hobby!
|
Black sand and rocky...not your usual Florida beach. |
|
But what it lacks in beauty, it makes up for in cool souvenirs! |
|
Maybe someday we'll actually manage to fill this jam jar haha. |

Proof I actually got in the water! (Usually I just sit in my chair and nap/read.) |
All things told, it was an excellent weekend. Too bad I woke up Monday with a throat full of glass and lungs full of cotton. I'm hoping to stave off the worst of what's been going around lately. I'm counting down to when I can get out and go for an easy run, and I'd hate to have to wait longer because of some silly summer cold!
How was your weekend?
Do you relax at the beach, or play in the water and collect shells?
It's already 90 here. The gloating from you northerners can start now.
ABK
Weekend was super packed with fitness and meals with friends/family.
ReplyDeleteI have a really hard time simply relaxing at the beach...I get bored. I need to go for a walk...play in the water....collect shells, throw a frisbee...and then I can go back and lay down and relax for a bit.
My temperature is 34 degrees faurenheit right now...can you believe that? It's freakin' April here in NS and the temperature should be at least 55-65 by now. Grrrrr
The weather has been truly weird this year...just super extreme!
DeleteI think the heat at the beach saps my energy. I just like to lay there like a lump!
Feel better Ali! I had a cold right before Boston which was certainly not ideal for me. :( Everyone told me to try a Nettie pot. Have you tried that?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I have to admit, I think that I assumed shark teeth would be yellowish/white...lol. Are they black just because they've been in the ocean for some time??
I've never used a Nettie pot but all my friends love it!
DeleteApparently shark teeth are white, but the minerals that take the place of the calcium during fossilization turn the teeth darker...depending on which minerals are in the place, the color can range from brownish to gray or black!
Looks like so much fun. I just love how babies eat food. So messy! That's cool you found shark teeth! My weekend was good, we held a surprise bridal shower for a friend and set up our new BBQ :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, a new BBQ! I'll bet you're getting lots of use out of that already! The weather is divine for it!
DeleteGoodness! Your body is rebelling! I am so sorry. I'm sending healing vibes your way. Your beaches look so much warmer than our beaches. I've gone in the water approximately zero times since I've been an adult because it's about 40 degrees. No thank you. That baby is too cute! Love weekends that feel like weekends.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not sure what's going on with my health. I totally blame the end of the year. It's just so stressful, I think it makes me sick!
DeleteI hope you're feeling a little bit better this morning. Drinks lots of tea!
ReplyDeleteI usually don't go in the water at the beach because I HATE getting salt water in my mouth. I prefer to lounge under an umbrella, read a good book and take a nap :) I think we could definitely be beach buddies!
I'm finally feeling better today...almost back to normal!
DeleteI can't stand getting salt water on my face. It burns! My skin is too sensitive for it. Does Adam like to be active on the beach? Matt likes to play games and I get annoyed that he won't just let me sit there lol.
I love when it's hot!! Bring on 90!!! It's in the 60s here. Is paddling hard? It looks hard to balance...
ReplyDeleteAlso, I saw this link on FB and thought of you :) http://www.buzzfeed.com/erinlarosa/problems-all-people-with-resting-bitchface-will-understand?bffb
DeletePaddling is SUPER easy if you have flat water and a good board. But race boards are really tippy, and it can be hard to stay balanced in choppy water...or if there are a lot of dolphins around to distract you.
DeleteI saw that Buzzfeed and thought of myself too! haha!
It looks like you had a very relaxing weekend! I hope you can run soon!!!!! Lots of love from NY!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to run this weekend...something short and easy, just to test the tendons!
