Did it turn into an "I'm glad I went!" run? Kind of. I mean, today I'm still disappointed in how it went, but I'm glad I went.
Before the run, Matt and I went to the last XC meet of the year. A bunch of my students are on the team, and it was emotional to watch them run. In middle school their meets are 2 milers, so that's what they ran. Our top girl came in 9th of over 250, making it to states in November, and finished in around 15 minutes. All of the girls had strong races...most PR'd. The boys went the same.
The best part was that at the end of their race, the girls stayed to cheer the boys on...and like true runners, cheered for every boy from every school. Talk about a "the kids are alright", feel-good moment.
Look for a race report sometime this weekend...maybe I'll even have pics!
After the meet and the run, I was not at all hungry. My dinner was an avocado. Delicious, but not really balanced.
Saturday is my 10k. Last time I ran it in about 58...I'm hoping to break 62 this year. My last 10k in May was 67, so I know if nothing else this will be a more positive and fun race for me!
My finishing sprint this time last year. |
What's your favorite race distance?
Are there any races you like to run yearly?
Did you run XC in school? I didn't begin running until after I graduated. I'm sad I missed out on team meets and races, and that I rarely attended my sister's track meets! (She was, and still is, speedy!)

I think an avocado sounds like a fantastic dinner! You are going to rock your race! I'm thinking positive thoughts for you. I can't wait for the race report!!
ReplyDeleteThanks girl! It sure was tasty, but definitely not a REAL dinner haha!
DeleteHope you have an awesome time at the 10K this weekend!! I love Sanibel (I'm not a totally creepy stalker, I saw you used the Sanibel tag on this post). My mom and I go there every year for a mother-daughter weekend. I always look forward to breakfast at The Island Cow :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so gorgeous there!! The race is super beautiful. I may even pause to take pics this year, as I'm not looking to PR or anything. You should run it next year with me!
DeleteCan't wait to hear about your race!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks girl!
DeleteHave a great race!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite distance is half marathon. It used to be 10k but as time has gone on and I've become a stronger runner, I like the longer distance. (Though I do love 15ks.)
I love lots of races I would like to run yearly, I don't always get to do all of them. And then sometimes they slowly fall out of favor... making room for new ones!
And I didn't run in high school, I've always been a (very) slow but can go forever sort of person, I was definitely not tapped for any team. (I did make it on to our girls' soccer team in high school but that was because it was the first year for it and the coach was competing against a very successful girls' lacrosse team for talent. I never really got a hang on the rules.)
I love half marathons too! I just think it gives me enough time to really get a second wind. I've found that the longer distances I run, the better I feel...it takes longer to warm up these days.
DeleteGood luck and have fun at your race!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteHAVE AN AWESOME RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I plan to!!
DeleteI remember running in the School Running Club with my grade 5s last year and having to really kick it into gear to keep up with them.....it was super funny!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck in your 10k!!! You will nail it down. ;)
Some of those kids are like little speed racers! I don't know where they get it!
